Mail-In Ballot & Yale Mail Information
Receiving your mail-in ballot and mail here at Yale
Mail-in Ballot
- In some states, registered voters automatically receive a ballot at their registered mailing address. They can vote by mailing this “mail-in ballot” back (ensuring enough time for it to arrive by Election Day) or by depositing it at a dropbox in the state where they are registered to vote. Check your registration to make sure your mailing address is correct. You may need to update your registered mailing address in order to receive a mail-in ballot somewhere other than your home address.
In other states, a person planning to vote form out of state must request an absentee ballot, which specifically refers to a ballot requested by a voter who will be out of state and cannot receive a mail-in ballot at their home state address.
Yale Mail
- When inputting a residential address, please use the address that is in the city and state in which you wish to vote. If you wish to vote in your home state with a mail-in ballot, please use your permanent address in that state. If you wish to vote in person in Connecticut, please use your head of college address or your off-campus residential address. If you live on Old Campus, use the residential college office address for the residential college you are affiliated with.
- Please note: on the TurboVote site, Yale College students living on campus should use the drop-down tool to select their residential college.
- When inputting a mailing address, please use the address you want any election mail to go to. For students who want to receive election mail on campus, address all election mail to your head of college office (NOT the Student Package Center). For students who want to receive election mail off campus, use your off-campus address.
- Please note: Election mail cannot be sent to a P.O. box. This is a federal regulation, and USPS will return to sender. Election mail also cannot be sent to the package center and may be returned to sender by USPS as well.
- Residential college addresses are not to be used for other personal mail or packages. Please visit Yale Mail Services for more information on obtaining a P.O. box and on using the package center.
- If you live in YLS Baker Hall, the Yale Law School Office of Student Affairs can assist with incoming VOTER MAIL and delivery. Please contact OSA directly at osa@yale.edu and use the mailing address: YOUR NAME, c/o Yale Law School, Office of Student Affairs, 127 Wall St, New Haven, CT 06511.
